Tips for Planning a Retreat

Celebrating because this weekend kicks off the first ever Camp Preppy with my podcast, The Preppy Podcast. I thought it would be helpful to share some lessons I learned while planning this retreat as it was my first time planning multiple days for over 20 people. I can’t wait and I’m sure post retreat there will be even more lessons learned but here’s where I am so far…

  1. Poll your audience before making major decisions- I set a date preciously for July just based on my own scheduled but after only a few people booked I realized that it was a hard month for most so then threw out some other dates and landed on September based on feedback.
  2. Create a community- I’m in a few different membership groups and one thing I’ve noted from them is it is all about community, connecting everyone to build energy. I created a private Instagram group for everyone attending and it really has been such a positive to set the ground before the retreat.
  3. Share sneak peeks- throughout the planning process I engaged my followers by sharing a planning trip up to the Inn as well as some of the welcome bag goodies and partner brand activities. Attendees got so excited for the stacked swag!
  4. Plan, plan and organize- I have my mom to thank for this but I have multiple Excel sheets and PowerPoint’s listing activities, day by day, hour by hour, alongside pictures. A shoot list is also great for photographers when planning
  5. Invest in packing tools- I have so much to bring to the retreat for welcome bags, activities and decor. My car is going to be packed so I had to be strategic. I purchases huge, zip able, flexible reusable bags to pack based on days/activities as well as invested in a pop up wagon to help unpack and load up for activities each day
