I know a lot of you have seen my posts on social media the past two months and have asked about him. Here’s the update, my sweet Marty has lymphoma. Specifically a type of lymphoma that manifests on the skin. It’s heart breaking as he is only 7 years old and my absolute best friend and shadow.
He sits behind me everyday (on the same chair) when I work and is always two steps behind me. We have a special bond and since Will and I don’t have human kids, he is one of my babies.
If you Google his diagnosis it’s grim. It all happened so fast. I noticed literally the day after Christmas when he got up from the sofa there was a little blood and when I looked found a little scab looking thing on his butt. I brought him to the vet the next day and we decided to keep an eye on it and give him antibiotics thinking it was a skin rash of sorts. Well it grew and quickly and scabbed and bled. We met with the vet countless times and about a month in had surgery to remove. Still at this point thinking it was a skin infection.
Post surgery was a lot too. He did very well but was on a schedule of over 10 pills a day. He wasn’t allowed to do stairs or run or jump for over 2 weeks. The worst of it were the 2 drains he had put in which were very messy! However, he recovered very well and we, along with the vet were very happy with it!
Sadly a few days later we got the results that the mass that was removed was lymphoma. Today he has his first appointment with an oncology doctor to discuss next steps and a plan. Please keep him and us in your prayers. Right now he is upbeat, happy and a normal dog so we hope to continue that as long as possible
PS. you can still see his little post surgery shaved body here.
